Once a farm, now a place for picnics, walking and play

Two barns that once were part of a dairy farm dating to the 1800s and have been refurbished for use as a community center are a centerpiece of Stan and Joan Cross Park that’s now open to the public in the Frederickson area of Pierce County.

The buildings, picnic areas, paths for walking, and a playground are the first phase of recreational development and environmental restoration on the 64-acre site, which is named for a couple that once farmed the land before selling it to the county.

Support of the county Parks and Recreation Department project has come from a community group, Friends of Stan and Joan Cross Park.

Former dairy barns have been repurposed as a community center at Stan and Joan Cross Park in rural Pierce County.
